The DeSoto Literacy Council assists the residents of this and surrounding counties with Basic Adult Literacy and Adult Education to include GED/HiSet preparation.
The DeSoto County Literacy Council (DCLC) offers tutoring for adults who want to increase their basic reading skills. Every literacy student is given a diagnostic assessment in reading. This assessment provides valuable information regarding the student's strengths and needs in the four components of reading.
DCLC provides GED/HiSet preparatory classes in anticipation of students taking the exams. The GED/HiSet programs serve students 16 years or older who have not received a high school diploma. We also provide all necessary materials to prepare students for the GED/HiSet exams.
All services at DCLC are provided at NO COST to the students.
The Desoto County Literacy Council was established in 1981 by the First Regional Library in collaboration with area citizen groups. The Literacy Council was established in an effort to provide literacy services to the residents of Desoto County and the surrounding areas.
The Literacy Council is committed to improving the lives of individuals by partnering with local agencies including: the Mississippi Community and College Board, Northwest Mississippi Community College, United Way of the Mid-South, Dollar General Stores, First Regional Library, and the North Mississippi Literacy Alliance.
