The Desoto County Literacy Council was established in 1981 by the First Regional Library in collaboration with area citizen groups. The Literacy Council was established to provide literacy services to the residents of Desoto County and the surrounding areas.
The Literacy Council is committed to improving the lives of individuals by partnering with local agencies including Mississippi Community and College Board, Northwest Mississippi Community College, United Way of the Mid-South, Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, First Regional Library, and the North Mississippi Literacy Alliance.
